Dr. Courteney Werner, DC was accepted to study at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) after three years of study at the University of Toronto with exceptional academic results. This early acceptance accelerated her on her path to becoming a chiropractor. After four additional years of study at CMCC, she graduated with clinic honors in 2015. While in school, she completed clinical internships with Sherbourne Health Centre, the CMCC campus clinic, and with Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.   A life-long chiropractic patient herself, Dr. Werner is an advocate of wellness care. Her personal experience with chiropractic has also encouraged a particular passion for prenatal and pediatric health. It is with this in mind that she became certified in Webster technique; a chiropractic technique often associated with expectant mothers.

On the other end of the spectrum, Dr. Werner had the privilege to work as an intern in the spinal stenosis clinic at the prestigious Mount Sinai Hospital. It was here that she came to truly appreciate the impact chiropractic care and proper exercise could have on geriatric patients’ mobility and quality of life.   It is Dr. Werner’s vision to be able to help people in all stages of life get and stay healthy and mobile. It is her philosophy that it is never too late or too early to take one’s health seriously and invest in oneself.

I first took an interest in Chiropractic at the age of 17. I had been working in at McCullough’s Feed and Seed store in Lanark, slugging feedbags. I was a strong adolescent, and though it sure wasn’t proper lifting technique I liked to impress the farmers by picking up feedbags without bending my legs, lifting them over my head, and flinging them to the front of their truck. The bags weighed up to 100lbs each and, as fun as this was, a few months of lifting improperly ground me down.

I found out that physics will grind down even the strongest individual if they don’t respect gravity and attempt to move through it efficiently. I was hobbled, I had to drag the bags to the tailgate and there was no ability to throw left in me. I was badly bent over, I had to put both hands on my knees to look at the clock and see if it was almost time to go home. My employer was a kind man and father to my best friend. He said “Andrew you have to do something, this job is killing you.” I didn’t know what to do, I felt that if I was given medication it would just cover up what was going on and not fix anything. So my employer suggested I try Chiropractic. I wasn’t too sure, my parents at that time were pretty skeptical of Chiropractic. But then I remembered my grandfather Bell swore by them and enjoyed getting adjusted, though he referred to his Doctor of Chiropractic as the “bone bender”.

I took the rest of the day off, and met with the chiropractor in Perth. He examined me thoroughly, and showed me what I had done to myself. He was happy to tell me I was in the right place, and that he could help me by restoring normal motion and position to the vertebra of my spine. He took time to educate me, and explained that these subluxations were affecting my brain’s ability to send and receive impulses to and from the rest of my body. I responded quickly to the adjustments, and felt great relief within the first weeks. We continued to adjust and correct my spine’s motion over the following months, I felt better than I could remember feeling. I then decided I needed to become a Chiropractor, and share this experience with others.

Preferred Techniques

My moto is to first help end needless suffering. I try to adopt each patients goals and help them reach those but will also show them the light of wellness chiropractic should they wish to make chiropractic a lifestyle as my family and I have. I treat all ages, and in some cases have treated 4 generations of the same family. It is very rewarding to work with people like this who really get the concept of how life can be with a well maintained, supple and aligned spine. It is so much more than the presence or absence of pain.

My preferred techniques for adjusting are Thompson which is a full spine assessment and correction protocol, Diversified and Activator. I am also trained in Gonstead which uses the x-ray technique to discern the status of the spine prior to treatment and rule out contraindications to adjustments, flexion distraction, sacral occipital technique, upper cervical specific and applied kinesiology.

Education

After graduating from Perth and District Collegiate Institute, I went to undergrad at Ambassador University, in Big Sandy, Texas. My major was a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Afterwards, I moved to Dallas, Texas and attended Parker College of Chiropractic where I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic in April 2002. I practiced in various clinics in the greater Dallas Area, where I gained a great deal of experience with auto injury and specifically whiplash. Then returned to Canada and have practiced in the greater Ottawa area since 2012.

Enough about me! What’s important is how we can help you!
